For some breeds, professional grooming is an essential, life long experience. From this groomers point of view, the most important tip I could pass along is, expose your puppy to grooming as early as 8 weeks old before they are old enough to develop fears. It can mean the difference between a terrifying experience and a mild inconvenience for them for the rest of their lives.

De-matting an overgrown coat can be painful and risky (sharp tools, vigorous brushing). Mats “grow” and as they do, they get closer to the skin. If they get wet, they tighten and the skin underneath stays damp, causing irritation. When the coat is in this condition, combing out is difficult or even impossible and painful to the pet as well as costly. A shave down is eminent, thus an ugly haircut!
